About Hanal Pixan - Day of the Dead
Journey deep into the interior of the Yucatan Peninsula to the Mayan town of Tres Reyes to witness and partake in one of the region’s most important ritual traditions, the Hanal Pixan (Day of the Dead), an ancient ceremony performed to honor the ancestors who are said to visit their living relatives on this day.

Description
If you're craving something cultural it doesn't get more of a raw experience than this!
Enjoy a guided walk of the town, visit the local cemetery, see altars in the homes of families from this community, listen to live music and attend the final ceremony that takes place in the magnificent ‘Cenote de la Vida’ (Life Sinkhole), a massive 80 foot (25 meter) deep formation surrounded by freshwater and lush jungle vegetation.
Finish it all off with a delicious dinner served by the inhabitants of the town.
Itinerary:
Pick-up from selected hotels and meeting points.
4:00 PM Mayan town of Tres Reyes
- Guided walk of town, cemetery
- Visit family altars
- Hanal Pixan ceremony in ‘Cenote de la Vida’
- Dinner 8:00 PM before departing back to CUN and PDC
The expedition includes transportation, guide, entrance to the show and Maya ceremony, typical dinner, water.
OPTIONAL
You do have the option to add a visit to the archeological ruins of Coba to this tour for an extra cost. The pickup time for this option is a little earlier at 2.00 pm
It includes a 45 minute guided tour and 1:15 hrs of free time to take pictures.
You will visit the main temples of this archeological site and tour the ancient paths or Sac Be that lead to the great temple.
You are still allowed to climb Nohoch Mul, the highest temple in the region if you wish. The views from the top are pretty spectacular.
Inside the site, you can also rent bicycles and tricycles available with additional costs to facilitate the journey.
People under the influence of alcohol or toxic substances won’t be allowed to participate.

Hints and Tips
- Wear comfortable shoes that support the heel and preferably cover the toes.
- Wear light clothes.
- Bring an umbrella or raincoat.
- Bring a flashlight.
- Bring cash or credit card for purchase of crafts and photographs.
- Insect blockers and/or repellents are permitted as long as they are identified as biodegradable.
Kids
Children older than the age of six can enjoy the tour.

This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Also, this expedition may represent an over-exertion for people with disabilities, senior adults and/or future moms.
