EL GRAN TACO

Tacos are an art. An ancient tradition passed down from generation to generation, today they are at the heart of Mexico's culinary identity. Serving up to 15 different stews a day, which can also be eaten as a quesadilla or gordita, El Gran Taco is a true taco (and flauta) heaven. On the weekends you can also order some Mexican barbacoa, paella or even Xcatic (pronounced ISH-ka-teek), which are mild chili peppers stuffed with creamy shrimp.

Not many people outside of Mexico are aware of the incredible variety of dishes and flavors which exist in this country, much less the amazing array of native ingredients. La Perla Pixan specializes in authentic Mexican fare. Experience the tantalizing taste of this wonderful cuisine, and don't forget to wash it down with a splash of mezcal or pulque!

Tacos, Tacos, Tacos. The ultimate taco joint. This is a local place for real Mexican food so if you want real food that real Mexicans eat - come to El Fogon. Great value for money, many different types of tacos and everything is very reasonably priced.

Axiote Playa del Carmen restaurant

Axiote Restaurant is the embodiment of quality Mexican cuisine, and a testament to how wonderfully rich and diverse this fine fare really is. Graced by the creations of the talented Chef Xavier Pérez Stone, Axiote will surprise your senses with the fascinating spices and flavors of Mexico. Special lunch menus available daily.

ALDEA CORAZON $$-$$$

5th Avenue between 14th and 14 bis.

This is one of the most romantic restaurants in Playa del Carmen. Set in a garden setting surrounding a cenote, the ambiance is wonderful. The food is gourmet Mexican and delicious! Try the jicama tacos. They are open breakfast, lunch and dinner. Read our review of Aldea Corazon.

 

CARBONCITOS $-$$

Located on 4th street between 5th and 10th avenues on the ground floor of the El Cielo hotel. 

Authentic Mexican flavors and home cooking. Carboncitos is known for delicious food and great service. Repeat winner of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence award. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

La Mission Playa del Carmen restaurant

10th Avenue between 2nd and 4th Streets
The two most common words associated with this popular Mexican restaurant in Playa del Carmen are the following: fantastic and authentic. When your guests freely offer up some generous adjectives to describe your food, you know you're doing something right. And you know what? The reviews are spot on with their praise, though the food is more Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican cuisine, which will please many people used to the Tex-Mex flavors.
